Friends from the diaspora are quite the interesting lot! Didn’t know till one of my friends to Italy or Turkey or one of those places, with exotic food and amazing museums. One night she calls me up, and after some pleasantries, she asks me, ‘What do you do with your money?’ I should have just told her, I don’t make enough to do anything with, instead, I gave her this amazing narrative of what I thought she wanted to hear. Shock on me, that discussion became one of the longest phone calls I have ever had. She gave me tips on saving that she had been using, insights she had come across in her research, what other people are doing in other countries. It was simply a call to action. Her main aim she said what to ensure that am many young people know and get to understand the need to start a journey of wealth creation earliest possible. She then challenged me to do the same.

I could not just start telling people about investment options available to them without first ensuring that I had the right information to share. So in my journey of self education and knowledge seeking I found an amazing book. Moses Mukisa’s Straight Forward Financial Growth and this has given me the perfect footing to start my journey on wealth creation. He gives solutions that are very well suited for East Africans in particular. For the longest time, I have always believed, as I have been taught, that the only way to make money is to start a business! The irony of our belief when we were kids ‘study hard, go to a good campus, do a killer course, get a good job, the start swimming in paper. I ticked all the boxes and am still broke! Wealth creation starts with a mind shift. (as you think, so…’). This entails getting your mind to come to the realization that I can handle wealth. When that happens, you start the grid!

The grid though is a curse put on man through Adam’s eating of the fruit! Wrong! Adam, was busy grinding even before Eve and the snake came along. Why is it hard then, if it was not put on us as punishment? Work, was always meant to be the role of humans when they were being created. Only that work, outside where God meant to place you, is just toil. Blood and sweat!
