the fall

For any guy, am sure that at some point in their life, he has found himself roped into a very uncomfortable discussion with by his girlfriend. He is just there, watching the game, reading a book, or just on his phone and his lady starts the conversation; ‘babe, how comes we don’t talk anymore’ Now, by virtue of being a man, the answer most probably will be; ‘but we are talking right now’. ‘No, I mean talk like talked about what you think about, and what’s in your mind, we don’t do that anymore’. ‘So, what do you want to talk about?’ Now, any guy who is interested in self-preservation stops talking right about this point and listens to his lady. Her point is valid though. She is looking for some sort of connection. An emotional connection.

Ladies are emotional beings.

I was reminded of this statement a few weeks ago when my pastor said it during a ‘word drive’. (if you happen to get into my pastor’s car, and he’s driving you somewhere, anywhere, he has this session where guys in the car get to ask anything in the Bible, and there is an open discussion about it. This he calls ‘the word drive’). I don’t really remember the exact discussion that we were having, but the words, ‘women are emotional beings’ were said, in the context of Gen 3:5-6. Now this lead me to a realization that I had never heard before.

“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”  When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, …

Genesis 3:5-6 NIV

At this point, the conflict in Eve’s mind was that, she didn’t just see a fruit which she had been told not to eat from, she also saw it as a chance to be like God. To have a deeper connection with God. Looking at the fruit from this perspective, she realized that it was also good for food and looked pretty damn good. For her, it was an opportunity to have a deeper emotional connection with God.

To my point: if beast lived in a hut, Belle would still have fallen head over heals; if it’s Nicole Armstrong who made it to the moon first, she would have done more than just plant a flag, maybe redecorate? And, even in pursuit of a deeper emotional understanding of God, it’s still called the ‘fall of man’.

Guess, there is no point after all.
